First Days at Keele University

 Description of first night

Now I came to university via a lift with my parents, brother & sister, I do not understand why they all came I expected to just be dropped off with my stuff but no, I had to suffer through 5 hours, now when I got here I saw my house neighbours right near my door, that was when I first met them all, seems like a group of respectable people taking a large variety of subjects, pretty much straight away we left from where I am staying Hawthorns to the Student Union to go to the Ice breakers party, The night began playing some pool against my flat mates while enjoying the very cheap beer at the bar. Later on that night, we left the bar and went to the ballroom which looked like a very serious ravey nightclub where you could not hear anything and flashing lights with loud Music, there was also an outside area for when we got too hot, which was just some stairs at the back to a large area of benches the only problem was the queue for the bar it was that packed it would have took 10 minutes to get a drink. The small group I was with got back at about 2 but out house mates were just relaxing on the stairs until 3 in the morning.

Description of my block / room

The two photos on the left are me standing at either end of my room, I understand it's not the cleanest of rooms but I suppose it is my home!, My block has 2 bathrooms one on the 3rd floor & one of the first each bathroom contains 2 toilets, 1 shower & 1 bath and these are all to share between the 35 people in my block, the two bottom floors are for males whereas the two top floors are for females for separation of bathrooms, on the second floor is the kitchen
which has 4 fridges, 2 cookers, 2 kettles & I believe 2 microwaves when we get here we allocate our selves with one shelf, 1 fridge section & 1 freezer section

Current Situation

I normally end my blog with a current situation so I figured I would not break tradition, I am currently sat in my Room very sleepy as I was up at 8 for the free breakfast that turned out to be just a piece of fruit and a croissant!, after that we all went to the sports fair I signed up for Lacrosse, Rowing, Archery, Basketball & Swimming which seems alot but they're just taster sessions! so should be fun. After that we went to the festival opening which had Keeles bands playing which were very good! & various activities around like football and bouncy castle like events. Tomorrow will be introductory lectures! so that should be fun meeting class mates, Thank you for reading i'll post again next week!

6 more days!

University!

Hello There! I promised you a post every week and that is what I will do, In 6 more days I will be leaving Burton upon Trent behind and will be departing for Keele university!, obviously I've had to prepare myself with equipment and such but I don't want to be boring you guys with details so I will just make a short list!

  • Students Account- Santander had some good interest rates & a free rail card!!!
  • Laptop- Obviously for educational pruposes! (PC World)
  • Stationary- All bought from Asda
  • Cooking and dining stuff- all bought from Asda
  • Linens, Pillow covers & Shit- All bought from Dunelm Mill
  • Also Alarm Clock & Tuppel wear boxes from Asda!

All of that was not as expensive as I thought it would be, I mean I pride myself in that I managed to find 4 knifes, 4 forks, 4 tea spoons & 4 table spoons for £1.50!, even if I did get asked for ID!, I mean how much damage could one do with a dinner knife! and of course the friend (Nick) whom I went with had no ID meaning I had to go back later but it was worth it for that crafty £4 saving!, such a beautiful saving that I felt compelled to add a picture of them on the left.

Worries

I figured for a future blog I would address all the worries that I am feeling now to give you guys a reference to what university is like in comparison to my worries:
  • Will I be able to make friends at university?- I mean the people I hang around with in this area I've been hanging around with since Primary school and the new people i've known have all been an addition too my primary/senior school friends, will I be able to start from scratch?
  • Will the course be too hard for me?- Now my A Levels were hard for me, I understand some people say they're easy but I've always been an average student at AS I achieved E D B causing me to have to do 2 years work all in 1 year, I did pull it off but one year later I wouldn't have been able too (Since the stupid conservative plan to scrap janurary resits), I will not be able to experience similar hartships at university I need to work good straight away
  • Will I be able to cook myself meals?- My parents, brother and sister went away for 2 weeks in August and I managed to survive for myself but it was stricly on a diet of pure rubbish, Microwave food and finger food, so perhaps at university in the long term i'll die of poor diet!
  • Will I be able to keep track of my finances?- I've had jobs in the past and as soon as I get money into my account I cannot help but spend it all!, I am a frivolous spender! and with my student loan I want to save it only for the essentials but I am not 100% sure if I will be able to do that
  • Will I lose contact with my friends?- Now some friends have already gone of to university most of which I have not heard much from, I presume they are busy or enjoying their new social life. Point is will we remain in contact?

    Current Situation

Alot of my friends have gone off to university, meaning I certainly don't go out as much next week it will probably be about 3 times I will go outside the house for my friends, I have stopped playing football (One of my favourite hobbies!) due to lack of players & I have stopped working for a plumbing company meaning my source of income has been reduced and I am living of my savings, it certainly is a depressing time at the moment and the only thing keeping me going is the fact i'll be going off to somewhere different in about a week,

I'd like to thank you for reading this! and hope I haven't bored you to much, I'll post again next week!

Introductions

Hello good people of blogger, I thought I would make myself a blog to free up some time and to talk about the things that concern me and hope that some of you will relate too!, I hope you don't find this too boring but i'm doing it for my benefit as much of my benefit as yours!

Sixth Form

Ok to begin with i've recently finished my exams,  in june and recieved my results in august which were B in Biology, B in Mathematics and a B in ICT as you can guess I was VERY happy with these results as they allowed me to proceed to university, being the first in the family to go to university a very proud achievement!, as much of a happy day results day was for me it was also a sad time as I knew it would involve me inevitibly losing contact with the people i developed bonds with in the last seven years I attended that school but hey life goes on! as much as we may not want it to.

Holiday in Kos

To celebrate finally finishing with school, my friends organised a holiday to Kos, my first holiday away from my family and it was most enjoyable!. It did however mainly involve my first ever experiences of night clubbing as I was 17 at the time and Kos has NO age restriction as far as I could tell, so that holiday mainly involved us waking up and being out of the appartment at 2pm! getting a hungover breakfast, staying in the sun for 3 hours & then returning back to the appartment to prepare for dinner, drinking and inevitley night clubbing until 6 in the morning!, a very unique but fun experience!

A lovely picture of me enjoying my rare moments in the sun
